Chisahime Maternal Line

The foundation of the Chisahime maternal line comes from the JVP Chisahime 662 cow. Her offspring are at, or near, the top of WSU 2014 & 2017 WSU National Wagyu Sire Summary for Marbling (Bar R Ya­sufuku 42K), External Fat (Bar R Saburo 53Y), Rib Eye Area (Bar R Saburo 53Y), and Hot Carcass Weight (Bar R Shigeshigetani 54Y). She has proven herself to be a world class matriarch through the success of her descendants in top herds like Lone Mountain Ranch, A.A. Co.’s Westholme, Macquarie Wagyu, Bar R Ranch, and Bald Ridge Wagyu. Chisahime 662 is sired by Yasukane, who is also the sire of the popular sire JVP Yasutanisakura and Westholme’s successful foundation cow Tomokane. Her maternal grandsire is Itofuji who is the sire of TF 147, a leading foundation sire for growth. Bar R Saburo 53Y, Westholme Namiyoshi 4, Bald Ridge Terutani 40/1 Z116, Macquarie Wagyu F C1255, LMR Daisuke 2470Z, LMR Kitaguni 1441Y, and Bar R Sanjirou 4P all come from this great maternal line. 

At Lone Mountain Ranch (LMR), their popular young sires LMR Kitaguni 1441Y, LMR Daisuke 2470Z, and LMR Koichi 1409Y are all descendants of Chisahime 662. These bulls are all putting up impressive prelimi­nary carcass data at LMR. LMR Kitaguni 1441Y is averaging 39.54% IMF on 4 carcasses. LMR Daisuke 2470Z is averaging 37.69% IMF across 7 carcasses. LMR Koichi 1409Y is the full brother of 1441Y and is averaging 33.25% IMF on 7 carcasses. 

Numerous sires from the Chisahime maternal line have come from the famous Bar R Ranch program. Some of these are Bar R Saburo 53Y, Bar R Sanjirou 4P, Bar R Itomoritaka 42Z, Bar R Yasafuku 42K, Bar R Shigeshigetani 54Y, and Bar R Jiro 22T. Bar R Saburo 53Y is a 30T x Sanjirou x Michifuku x JVP 400 x Chisa­hime. He ranks #6 for Marbling, #1 for Rib Eye Area, and #3 for External Fat on the 2017 WSU Sire Summary. Bar R Sanjirou 4P is a Sanjirou x 068 x Michifuku x JVP 400 x Chisahime who ranks #14 for Marbling, , #17 for Rib Eye Area, and #9 for External Fat on the 2017 WSU Sire Summary. Bar R Itomoritaka 42Z is a popular growth sire who still ranks #24 for Marbling, and #21 for Rib Eye Area on the 2017 WSU Sire Summary. Bar R Shigeshigetani 54Y is a 30T son and the #2 ranked fullblood for Hot Carcass Weight on the 2017 WSU Sire Sum­mary. Bar R Jiro 22T is a full brother to Bar R Ichiro 32R and a maternal brother to Saburo 53Y and Itomoritaka 42Z. Both 22T and 32R rank in the middle of the pack for Marbling on the WSU Sire Summary and have been popular A.I. sires around the USA. 

Bar R Sanjirou 4P has also seen success as a dam sire/ maternal grandsire in the LMR program. On 22 carcasses he is averaging 30.71% IMF as a maternal grandsire, showing a strong ability to transmit marbling. His semen has also made it to Australia, and his Breedplan EBVs show his strength in EMA and MS at +4.1 EMA and +1.0 MS EBVs with reliability over 70%. 

In Australia at the Westholme program, the bull, Westholme Namiyoshi 4 is an accomplished proven sire. He is a TF 148 x TF Terutani 40/1 x Haruki 2 x Michifuku x Kenahanafuji x Chisahime 662. On Breeddplan he boasts high indexes of $170 SRI, $156 FTI, and $152 F1-TI. His individual traits are just as impressive and well balanced at +1.3 MS, +4.3 EMA, and +18 C Wt. To top off his status as an elite sire, he has seen success as a sire of sons. Popular sons of his include Westholme Namiyoshichika ($242 SRI), Westholme Hiramichi Tsuru ($214 SRI), and Westholme Namiyoshikatsu ($194 SRI). 

The Macquarie Wagyu herd has produced the outstanding proven sire Macquarie Wagyu F C1255. He is a Michifuku son from an 068 dam who happens to be a direct daughter of Chisahime 662. C1255’s Breedplan proof is as impressive as any: he possesses a MS of 1.5, EMA of 2.0, and Carcass Wt of 17. These strengths translate to robust indexes of $198 SRI, $164 FTI, and $160 F1-TI. C1255’s reliability is through the roof at 90% for MS and 93% for Carcass Wt. This is because of the high number of carcasses on his proof at 76 bodies and he has genomics as well.

Bald Ridge’s well-known operation has bred another high ranking Chisahime sire, Bald Ridge Terutani 40/1 Z116. He is a TF Terutani 40/1 x Haruki 2 x Michifuku x Kenahanafuji x Chisahime 662. In the Sunnyside herd he has 12 carcasses on his proof and genomics to form impressive Breedplan EBVs. His indexes are $178 SRI, $165 FTI, and $141 F1-TI. He sports high growth EBVs of +29 400 Day Wt, +45 600 Day Wt, and +47 Carcass Wt. He does this while still maintaining positive carcass traits of +0.5 MS and +1.0 EMA. 

This family has also made some incredible donor dams in both the Lone Mountain Ranch and Bar R Ranch programs. At LMR BR Yasufuku 0645 is the dam of young accomplished sires LMR Kitaguni 1441Y and LMR Koichi 1409Y. A Yasufuku Jr daughter, she has produced incredible carcass results as well, with an 11-carcass aver­age IMF of 33%. This is one of the highest in the LMR herd. In the Bar R program, the legendary donor dam Bar R Miss 2N has bred breed-leading sons Bar R Saburo 53Y, Bar R Itomoritaka 42Z, Bar R Ichiro 32R, and Bar R Jiro 22T. She is a Sanjirou x Michifuku x JVP 400 x Chisahime 662 and is one of the most famous cows in the USA. Superior cows such as these have been the calling card of this maternal line.

This well-rounded line has excelled in a variety of areas, showing their flexibility from marble score and eye muscle area to carcass weight and growth traits.
